Improv Junkie
The challenge is to start something in six months for a budget of $1 million. Since my ninja hip hop skills earned me a finalist’s spot at the 2010 Radio Mercury Awards, the thought of starting my own rap label is pretty tempting.
Then again, I’m not sure I’m prepared for the drama associated with a wildly successful rap label. Plus, I’m no good at accessorizing.
Really, I’m more of a comedian.
Or, more specifically, an improviser.
Since it’s best to stick with what you know, I’d use the money to develop and promote ImprovJunkie.com, the first improv network of its kind. You see, if there’s one thing I’ve learned about improvisers, it’s that they’re passionate about what they do. Not to mention dedicated. Okay, that’s two things – but really “dedication” falls under the umbrella of “passion” so let’s just agree that I’ve only learned one thing about improvisers. It’s much simpler that way.
Improv Junkie will serve as a resource for improvisers all over the country to not only meet fellow improvisers, but also to find classes, shows, promote their groups and even upload performances.
Depending on costs, I’d like to incorporate functionality that allows improv groups to stream their shows live, with audience members around the country (most likely family and friends) paying a small fee to tune in, of which Improv Junkie will collect a small percentage.
Of course, Improv Junkie will be useful for more than just networking. It will also serve as a centralized casting site for those in the entertainment industry. After all, many of today’s top comedians, like
andfamously cut their teeth performing improv.
Once the site takes off, it will be entirely supported by ads, along with fees paid by VIP members, who will gain access to exclusive features.
Obviously, this is just the tip of the Improv Junkie iceberg, but I'd be happy to discuss the remaining details in person.
Thanks for your time,
Alex Harvey
